COURSE PREREQUISITE: Math 1180 (Precalculus) with
a grade
of C or better, or suitable
score on a placement or ACT test. In
addition, it is assumed that you have a
solid knowledge of
trigonometry, which is taught at WMU in Math 1180.
TEXT : Calculus with Early Vectors,
by
Zenor (and others). ISBN
# 0-13-791203-X is
needed if you want to order the text online.
SYLLABUS : We will study of basics of
differentiation and
integration of vector functions. Even
if you have done some previous
work in
calculus, it is unlikely that you have seen the vector
approach – which
should
better prepare you for physics and engineering classes.
TECHNOLOGY: It is assumed that you have a
graphing
calculator. If you don’t already own
one, get a TI-89. I
will use the TI-89 for classroom
demonstrations. Professor Pence has provided
instruction in the use of calculators at: http://homepages.wmich.edu/~pence/MATH170-171.htm

ACADEMIC INTEGRITY: You are responsible for making yourself
aware of
and understanding
the policies and procedures in the Undergraduate
Catalog (pp.
278-283) that pertain to Academic
Honesty. These policies include
cheating,
fabrication, falsification and forgery, multiple submission,
plagiarism,

been
involved in
academic dishonesty, you will be referred to the Office of
Student
Conduct. You will be given the
opportunity to review the charge(s). If
you
believe you are not responsible, you will have the

You should consult with me if you are uncertain about an issue of
academic
honesty prior to the submission of an assignment or test.
