![]() The
authors of Grammar Alive
(NCTE, 2003) describe the teaching of grammar
as the 'skunk at the garden party' of teaching English. We think that
this description has occurred because too many teachers are not
well-versed in the guiding concepts of teaching grammar. This website
is designed as an introduction to these concepts, including overviews
of our beliefs on teaching grammar and resources for teachers who want
to teach grammar effectively and efficiently -- within the context of
teaching writing.
Grammar Central is the class project of English 574: Grammar in Teaching Writing (Fall Semester, 2004), a combined undergraduate/graduate course at Western Michigan University.
