About Christine Smith “I consider myself very lucky because I have been able to play all
kinds of music with all kinds of people.” Christine Michelle Smith's career
has indeed taken her all over the world for performance, studies, and research.
Currently Principal Flute in the Kalamazoo (Michigan) Symphony Orchestra,
Christine has performed with Christine had her own adventure in good music when she was invited as a National Flute Association delegate to China in 1987, Russia in 1989 and Eastern Europe in 1992. These tours included solo and ensemble performances at Shanghai, Beijing, Amsterdam, Kiev, and Leningrad Conservatories of Music. A student of Alexander Murray, Joseph Mariano, and George Morey, Christine has also worked on several occasions with legendary flutists Jean-Pierre Rampal, Geoffrey Gilbert and Marcel Moyse. She holds degrees in Music from the University of Oklahoma and Michigan State University, and her love of learning is outpaced only by her love of teaching. Currently Associate Professor of Music at Western Michigan University and a faculty member at the Interlochen Arts Camp, she is a frequent judge and clinician for competitions and festivals throught the country and has had articles published in various national music magazines. |
