Jim received his PH. D.
degree in applied mathematics from Northeastern University in 1992 under the
direction of Professor Jack Warga. Before joining Western Michigan University
he held visiting positions at University
of Montreal, Center for Experiment and
Constructive Mathematics at Simon Fraser University and University
of Victoria.
Jim is interested in variational
techniques and their applications in nonsmooth analysis, optimization, control
theory and mathematical finance. He authored and coauthored one book and about
50 papers in these areas. Jim is an associate member
of Center for Experiment and Constructive Mathematics.
Jim teaches various undergraduate
and graduate mathematical courses and surpervised Kirsty Eisenhart's Ph. D.
thesis (2003).
