Personal Philosophy
All of these experiences have helped me to become a well-rounded person who believes that every child deserves an equal opportunity for an education. I believe that their cultural background, ability level or learning style should never be a disadvantage in a child’s education. I want to be able to create a classroom environment that provides an enjoyable, secure atmosphere for learning where everyone is challenged to view themselves and others as unique individual people.
Career and Job Goals
As a teacher, I hope to be an effective and successful teacher. I hope to expand the minds of children, by creating new ways of teaching and learning. My students will have an active role in their own learning. I want my students to enjoy class and feel pride with everything they do. I plan on working with all of my students so that they will have a better understanding of all that is going on in our classroom.
Previous Education
I have always gone to public schools; in elementary school I attended Bingham Farms Elementary in Birmingham, Michigan. For middle school I spent my first year at Berkshire Middle School in Birmingham, Michigan. Then we moved to Farmington Hills, Michigan where I attended two years at Warner Middle School. I then went to high school at North Farmington High School in Farmington Hills, Michigan. After graduation I decided to go to Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo Michigan. I pursued a degree in elementary education, with minors in math, science, English, and the early childhood endorsement. I did my student teaching in September of 2007, and graduated in December 2007, with my Bachelor’s Degree.
Previous Work Experiences
Over the past 5 years I have worked at Curious Kids Child Care Center through Portage Public Schools. The site contains 4 different programs; SOCC (student on campus care), PACC (pre-school age child care), Discovergarten (Kindergarten), and SACC (school age child care.) I have worked in all of the programs at one point or another. I most recently was head teacher in the Discovergarten program. I really enjoyed my time in this position; it gave me a chance to work with the students the other half of their school day. We practiced our letters, experimented with simple science experiments, and enjoyed many other learning experiences together. In the SACC program I worked as a director; planning activities, organizing staff, talking to parents, and working with the students. I was also a head teacher in the SACC program for a couple years, while in this program I worked with students in grades 1st-8th. I never worked for the SOCC or PACC programs directly but I have substituted in both. I have enjoyed all of me experiences and look forward to many more.
Hobbies and Volunteer Activities
A little boy I know has Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis, so twice a year I walk with his mother, friends and family to raise money to support Brennan and his cause. Brennan has had JRA ever sense he was an infant. He is now a fairly healthy first grade little boy who loves to run, play with his friends and enjoys almost any sport that he can get his hands on. I enjoy spending my time trying to help Brennan and other children like him get a better advantage on life.
