Knowledge

I am a education major, with a focus on elementary and early childhood. My other minors include physical education and science. I have been in the education major since my first day at Western. I have always known I wanted to become an elementary teacher. I have a passion for helping children succeed. There is no greater reward then seeing them smile. I chose to become a physical education minor, because of my background in athletics. I played softball for Western Michigan University on an athletic scholarship. Throughout the years, I also participated in volleyball and basketball for a number of years as well. I am very active and therefore, I felt this minor would be a great way for me to show my strengths in that area. Physical education has changed throughout the years and is no longer "gym" where we used to play "Dodgeball." It is now more meaningful and extrememly important to a child's development.

Here at Western, I have three more classes to take before finishing. I am currently enrolled in ED 4020, ED 5750, and EDT 3470 . I am also participating in my early childhood intership at Northglade Head Start. Next semester, I will be doing my elementary internship in Grand Rapids. I will graduate in the spring of 2006.
