Knowledge

I chose Elementary Education as my major because I have always wanted to be a teacher and this was the best field for me. I will be given the opportunity to work with students in an enriching environment that allows them to learn. I have three minors, 2 were chosen for me by the college of education and one I was able to choose. The three minors are Elementary Education ( a minor in itself), Math and Science (one combined minor), and group social studies. Although I have enjoyed a great many of my education classes my favorite minor and the one that I have gotten the most out of has definately been the group social studies. I love history and love being able to learn more whenever I can. The class that meant the most to me and that i enjoyed the most was History 211. I had so much fun in this class and was able to learn and discuss something that I love. I also happened to be in this class on September 11th when the planes hit the twin towers. I remember all of us in class trying to get out saying that this could be our John F Kennedy experience. None of us in class that day had any idea how much this would impact all of our lives and it really has become our JFK experience. As the song says, "Where were you when the world stopped turning?" Song by Alan Jackson.
I really enjoyed Ed 312 as well. This class had a really profound way of changing the way that I thought of teaching children to learn to read and ways to make reading and writing fun for the students. I was able to take so many ideas and projects out of that class. It was a great learning experience for me!!!
Teaching children
I have had many experiences teaching children. It started out when I was 12. I have younger siblings and I was always the one that helped with homework as well as the one that they looked up to for real life learning. I have worked at camps for many years now and I am always teaching the kids something, it seems liek everyday they are learning something new. I have worked in a day care in which I created lesson plans for 2 1/2-6 yOctober 31, 2005that I created for them. I have also had internships in which I went into the classroom and was able to work with students. I have taught reading, writing, math, science and social studies to these students. Teaching students is such a rush to me. I love watching them learn, their excitment turns into my excitement and pushes me to do a better job everyday!!
