Amanda's Professional Knowledge

Ever since I was a young girl, I knew that I wanted to be a teacher. It all started by playing "school" with my sister and friends. Naturally, I was always the teacher. From those early years on, my goal has been to work hard, stays focused, and achieve my goal as an educator. As I entered college in the Fall of 2002, there was no questioning that I wanted to teach the Elementary ages. From there I on I decided to pursue minors in math, science, integrative creative art, and early childhood. I am very determined to get the best education possible so that I can be the best teacher that I can possibly be.

To prepare myself for the teaching career I have currently completed the following courses:

MATH 150 Number concepts-Elementary/Middle School teachers
MATH 151 Geometry-Elementary/Middle School teachers
ED 250 Human Development
ENGL 282 Children's Literature
BIOS 112 Principles of Biology
PHYS 180 Physical Science in Elementary Education
GEOG 105 Geography
GEOS 100 Geology
HIST 211 American History since 1877
HIST 316 History of Women in Society
ED 230 Nature of Creativity
MUS 148 Direct Encounters with the Arts
MUS 240 Music for the Classroom Teacher
ART 120 Introduction to Art
THEA 100 Introduction to Theatre
ED 312 Foundations of Reading Instruction
ED 309 Educational Psychology:Young Children

*These courses highlight the basis of my education however, a transcript is available upon request.

Not only have I completed courses to help me prepare for my future teaching career but, I have also worked in the Elementary School setting as an Intern, helper, and presenter. These on-site experiences have assisted me in my progress toward becoming a teacher. They have also given me a hands-on approach to teaching and have really showed me what the classroom is like. I feel as though experience is the best teacher.
