Technology in the Classroom

The ISTE Technology Standards for Pre-Internship students requires compentency in many technology areas. I am meeting the standards by ...

I. Computer Operations

1. identify the benefits of technology to maximize student learning and facilitate higher order thinking skills.

2. differentiate between appropriate and inappropriate uses of technology for teaching and learning while using electronic resources to design and implement learning activities.

3.identify technology resources available in schools and analyze how accessibility to those resources affects planning for instruction. CLICK HERE for information reguarding Kid's Domain.

4. identify, select and use hardware and software technology resources specifically designed for use by PK-12 students to meet specirice teaching and learning objectives. CLICK HERE for example of PK-12 software use of Kidpix.

I am learning in my Educational Technology class how to perform various computer operations. I have learned about all of the interal and external components of the computer. I have learned which programs are benefical to learning as well as nice to the school budget. I have learned how to orient the student to computer functions, as well as troubleshoot basic problems a computer might experience.

The programs that I am familiar with that would aid in any classroom are Dreamweaver to make a class website, Powerpoint to aid in lectures, Excel to make grade spreadsheets, Kidpix to make student movies, Inspiration to plan lesson plans, and MS Publisher to make a classroom newsletter.

II. Planning and Designing Learning Environments and Experiences

  1. plan for management of electronic instructional resources within a lesson design by identifying potential problems and planning for solutions.

  3. design and teach technology-enriched learning activities that connect content standards with student technology standards and meet the diverse needs of students.
  4. design and peer teach a lesson that meets content area standards and reflects the current best practices in teaching and learning with technology. CLICK HERE to view an example of a powerpoint lesson

III. Teaching, Learning, and Curriculum

  1. develop a portfolio of technlogy-based products from coursework, including the related assessment tools.
  2. identify and engage in technology-based opportunities for professional education and lifelong learning, including the use of distance education.
  3. apply online and other technology resources to support problem solving and related decision making for maximizing student learning.

IV. Assessment and Evaluation

1.discuss technology-based assessment and evaluation strategies.

2. examine multiple strategies for evaluating technology-based student products and the processes used to create those products.

3. examine technology tools used to collect, analyze, interpret, represent, and communicate student performance data.

4. integrate technology-based assessment strategies and tools into plans for evaluating specific learning goals.

5.research and evaluate the accuracy, relevance, appropriateness, comprehensiveness and bias of electronic infromation resources to be used by students.

V.Productivity and Professional Practice

  1. participate in online professional collaboration with peers and experts.

I am participating in an online course where we regularly seek help from other students on the discussion board.

VI. Social, Ethical, Legal and Human Issues

  1. identify technology-related legal and ethical issues including copyright, privacy, and security of technology systems, data, and information.
  2. examine acceptable use policies for the use of technology in schools, including stratgies for addressing threats to security of technology systems, data and information.
  3. identify issues related to equitable access to technology in school, communit, and home environments.
  4. identify safety and health issues related to technology use in schools.
  5. identify and use assistive technologies to meet the special physical needs of students.

Examples of technology uses in other classes

- Sppa 400~ used software to collect and analyze speech sounds

-All classes~ use Microsoft Word to create, format, and edit writing

-OT 225~ used Microsoft Word and printers to create a transperancy for group project
