My best friends! (I am all the way to the right.)

CAREER AND JOB GOALS -

I have many goals and aspirations for myself and my future. Being nurtured by a mother who is also a teacher made a big influence on me and what I wanted to do for a living. It is because of my mom's influence that I want to be a teacher. Teaching is such an inspiring job. I have watched my mom grade papers, set her classroom up for the upcoming year, design lesson plans and be madly creative. I find it fascinating and intriguing. My mom is currently an 8th grade social studies teacher at White Pine Middle School in Saginaw, Mi. I have never aspired to be anything other than a teacher. I am currently attending Western Michigan University to become a teacher. I am in the college of education. I have minors in math, science and english and a major in elementary education. After I graduate in April of 2006, I would like to get a job working in a kindergarten, first, or second grade classroom. Children at this cognitive and developmental age intrigue me the most. I have always had a passion and love for children in this age range. As a future teacher I will be dedicated to each and every one of my students. I will show children how much I care for them. I will understand different cultures and diversities and how to best teach to all. I will be in my students life, both inside and outside of the clasroom making sure they get the best education they can possible get. I want to make a positive impact on each and every student that enters my classroom.

History of Previous Education-

I graduated from Swan Valley High School in 2001 in Saginaw, Michigan. After graduation I attended Delta Community College where I played volleyball on scholarship for two years. I graduated from Delta College with an associates degree of arts and transfered to Western University in the Spring of 2004. I am currently enrolled in Western's College of Education program. I will be doing my internship in the spring of 2006.

History of Previous Work Experiences-

After taking a babysitting class and learning about its responsibilities, I became one. This was a great experience for me. I realized through babysitting that teaching was definitely an occupation I would one day want to pursue. I love helping children to explore and learn about the world around them and babysitting was my first opportunity to "teach" the children. I have been babysitting for twelve years now.

I am currently a nanny for a three year old girl and seven month old boy. I love my job. I do not consider myself a babysitter because I am taking on a lot more than just watching the kids. I work with Maggie, the three year old, everyday, for about an hour. I am teaching her phonics, the alphabet, numbers and even reading.

Before I enrolled at Western Michigan University I worked at a daycare in my home town of Saginaw, Michigan. I began this job when I was a junior in high school. I began as an assistant for the children and was then promoted to a lead teacher in the three year old class. The owner noticed my positive attitude and my creative ideas that I was incorporating into the curriculum. She praised me often for my efforts, leadership, and caring personality.

Also, in the summer of 2004 I worked on a blueberry farm called "Blueberries Galore." I worked in the blueberry shack weighing the blueberries, giving buckets to the customers and taking their money. This was a very fun job!

I am currently pre-interning in a kindergarten classroom. I enjoy the opportunity to be in a public school classroom and experience all the things that happen there. The children come from many cultures and backgrounds. I am learning from them as much as they might be learning from me. Children can be so unpredictable and I am learing to work with them in a professional manner. I have to let my instincts guide me.

Unique Skills and Talents-

I have always been very active and involved in sports ever since I was a young child. I was on the basketball and volleyball teams all through middle school and high school. I then went on to play volleyball on scholarship at a nearby community college. I have always enjoyed athletics and I am very competitive. When my eligibility was up I didn't want to quit so I pursued volleyball from a coaching position. I would have to say that this is a unique skill to have because it takes a lot of patience and time! I instructed a group of eighth grade girls in AAU. I also was asked to be an assistant coach at the community college. This was interesting because I was able to coach and teach girls that were the same as myself. I also volunteered my help at local basketball and volleyball camps. I want to become a coach for a school one day.

Hobbies-

In my spare time, I love to go shopping and hang out with my friends and family. I also enjoy reading and being outside! Ever since I was little I have always loved to collect stuffed pigs. Now that I am 22 years old I have a large collection of pig stuff!
