Gibson Guitars
This was one of the first guitar companies and it was founded in Nashvill Tennisee. They make modles such as the Les Paul and the SG (Solid Guitar). Prominent guitar players such as B. B. King play the Les Paul. The neck of the guitar angles back from the body and is fitted into the body similarly to a violin with glew. They traditionally use a nitros celulos finish on their guitars, even though sheeper finishes have been put into use. It is said that this finish is obsorbed into the solid mahogony wood to make for better resination and ultimatley a better sound. This finish is not smooth and perfect looking, and some people critisize them for it, but there must still be a strong following who say otherwise because they remain to be one the guitar industries most popular make. It remains to be of the highest quality guitars available today.
Fender Guitars
This guitar company is relatively recent compared to Guibson. Fender was borne with the 1952 Telecaster. The Concept behind Fender Guitars was, and still is, to make manufacturing it easier and faster than the traditional way. The main differennce in its manufacturing is how the neck is attached. Fender necks are bolted on rather than fitted into the neck with glew like a violin (a time consuming process). To make its manufactering even more cost effective, they use an acrilic lacker, with a smooth, finished appearence. Popular guitarists such as Eric Clapton and Jimi Hendrix aided in this type of guitars popularity. It is currently the most copied guitar desine today because the cost effective method used to manufacture it.
