Hello to all, I am Amy Stieve!

I was born in Nebraska and grew up in Kalamazoo, Michigan where I still remain and attend Western Michigan University. I am apart of the Gwen Frostic School of Art and Western Michigan’s Bachelor of Fine Arts program, focusing on an emphasis in photography and the intermedia arts. I truly feel privileged to be apart of this esteemed program and honored to be working with both the faculty and student members.

Artist Statement

My vision is in a continuous search for a picture of compositional beauty. My mind is in never-ending amazement of the shapes and lines that can be created with out human thought and through the nature of existence. Within my visions and amazement, exists my photography.
In today’s fast paced world, there is more nonsense clouding our minds than we would like to admit. Photography allows me to come back down to earth; to see its wonders, and its disasters. With camera in hand, I can see peace and serenity; I can see what is taken for granted and I can see the ignored.
As a photographer, I feel that it is my sole purpose to see the world as art. I believe that it is my gift to capture the overlooked and to return it back to the population. It is my hope that they may begin to see what I see and if for only a slight moment, obtain the ability to forget the reprehensible and remember the essential.
