Parent Page

Welcome to our classroom. Please take the time to explore the website and get involved with what your child is learning. I encourage all parents to contact me anytime in regards to their child's education. This page allows parents to download a copy of our weekly newsletter and view my teaching experience and samples of my educational work. I have also provided some links at the bottom of the page that may be useful in the future. Have a great day!

My Teaching Experiences

During my first internship in 2004, I discovered that I wanted to pursue a degree in Elementary Education. St. Joseph Elementary provided the opportunity for me to work under the guidance of Sarah Rodgers who taught 5th grade. I worked directly with students who were challenged academically, and I developed a very strong relationship with all of the students throughout the school year

In the Summer of 2005, I had the opportunity to coach a youth baseball team. Throughout the season, I taught the children fundamental baseball skills and the importance of teamwork. Our team went undefeated, winning the championship game.

When I got accepted into Western Michigan's upper Education program, I had the opportunity to work in Mrs. Chicvara's 1st grade classroom at Chime Elementary School. My main responsibility was to observe reading literacy in a classroom setting. However, I got to do much more than observe, I actually got to teach a couple of lessons to the classroom. It was a great experience, and I learned a lot about children.

Resources for Parents

Zero to Three

This site provides a wide variety of information to parents that covers many topics. This website is designed to support parents in developing their own ways to promote their children’s growth and development.

Health and Wellness

Parents need to understand the importance of children coming to school emotionally and physically healthy. Studies have shown that children’s physical well-being has a significant effect on their learning and long-term success. When children are well-rested, well-nourished, and physically fit they are more ready to learn. Parents can access information as to how to provide a healthy lifestyle for their children.

Dealing with Alternative Sexual Orientation?

I have included this site because it is very difficult for parents to deal with issues of sexual orientation. It is important that you support your child in all of their decisions, and this site gives information as to how to do this appropriately.
