Habitat for Humanity: Description________________________

Thanks to Habitat for Humanity, more than 1.5 million people worldwide know there's no place like home. The not-for-profit, ecumenical Christian organization has built more than 300,000 houses at cost for families who demonstrate a need and are willing to invest several hundred hours of "sweat equity" during construction. The new homeowners also make payments on no-interest mortgages, and Habitat funnels the money back into the construction of houses for others. The organization operates through more than 3,000 affiliates in more than 90 countries, including including all 50 US states, the District of Columbia, Guam, and Puerto Rico. Habitat was founded in 1976 by Linda Fuller and her late husband Millard.

 YWCA: Description___________________________________
Although it has yet to be immortalized in song like its male counterpart, YWCA of the U.S.A. promotes the empowerment of women and girls through some 300 locations across the US. The not-for-profit organization provides 2.6 million women with services such as sports and physical fitness programs, shelters, child care, employment training and job placement, and youth development programs. It also sponsors racial justice, antiviolence, and women's economic advancement programs. YWCA of the U.S.A. is a founding member of World YWCA, which represents more than 25 million women in about 120 countries. The first YWCA in the US was founded in New York City in 1858. The national organization was created in 1907.
