Introduction

For the Systems project we chose a business called Premier Sports Events.  A system is a goal-driven set of elements and their purposely-oriented, structured relations that produce measurable results outside the system, despite obstacles.  Premier Sports Events provides housing services to many different youth sport teams. We wanted to give you a little background on the company and the way it works.  Premier Sports events, referred to as PSE will join hotels and sign contracts with them to gain commission from the “room blocks” that actually result in reservations.  PSE will join with many different tournaments and then when teams enter the tournament, PSE will offer their services to find housing and complete the entire reservation system for the team.  Options of hotels with prices and descriptions will be given to each team and they can choose among them.  A list of each team player and a credit card number will be faxed into Premier Sports Events which will then be entered into our computer systems and faxed on to the hotel of their choice.  Once the hotel has put the reservations into the “team block” they will then fax confirmation numbers back to Premier Sports Events which will be posted online for the team to access and receive.

Executive Summary

For the Systems project we choose Premier Sports Events.  We showed an Input-Processing-Output model of this business and chose a goal, target, objective, task and activity for the company.  We also looked at different views of the company and drew relationships among different components from one of the previous views we had chosen.  Obstacles were also chosen and listed for the company.  It was an interesting project and we all enjoyed working on it and getting more familiarized with Premier Sports Events.

AIMS of Premier Sports Events

Goal: To be recognized as one of the leaders in online registration and housing services and to bring in revenue.  We chose this as the company’s goal because that is a high-set goal that almost any company would want to achieve.  Everyone is in business to make Money but to this company it is more than that, they want the recognition and great business name to continue through the years.

A Measurable Result: A measurable result of this business system is to be the number one leader in online registration and housing in the United States by the year 2012.

Strategy: Continue business and focus on building relationships with people and bringing back satisfied customers.

Target: Premier Sports Events is targeting the tournaments of all different sports in America; it is also targeting the team manager of sports teams in America.  PSE basically takes over the job of the team manager in the housing aspect for the team.  They provide a seamless reservation process so it takes a lot of stress off the team manager.

Objective: The objective for 2006 is to put in place more sales representatives to start reaching out and growing the business to other areas.

Tasks:  To develop online registration and housing software that is owned by Premier Sports Events, and to acquire more office space and hire an extra administrative person.

Activities: Identify potential office space by seeking assistance from a realtor and being recruiting an administrative assistant by placing ads in newspapers, online and by word of mouth.

Policies: PSE does have policies in place for excellent customer service skills.  They also have contracts in place that have to be signed with each individual hotel for each individual tournament weekend that notes PSE is not responsible for any cancellations after a certain point and they do not take responsibility for the team once it arrives to the hotel.

Mission: To provide housing services with the greatest customer service and skill that can be shown and generated.

Vision: PSE’s vision to be the number one housing service in the United States.

Creed: It is PSE’s belief that customer service and client relationships are the key to building a strong business.

Three Major Views

Three major views that were chosen for Premier Sports Events are the Service view, the administrative view and the marketing view.  The service view was chosen because excellent customer service is essential in this business.  Customer service is what will keep customers coming back and also spreading word of mouth about your great business.  The administrative view was chosen because that is the number one job for Premier Sports Events to keep everything in order.  It is the administrator’s job to be carefully organized and complete with all work.  The marketing view was chosen because marketing is also very important for PSE because it is hard to get any business name out there and proper marketing is the key to growing your business in all directions.

Organization Chart

We choose to focus on the service view, and the relationship model shown above shows you that service is all about communication.  Management of PSE is very important to keep the seamless integration flowing for hotels, tournaments and teams.  What drives Premier Sports Events is how efficiently the communication can be shown to the administrative person to the team.  If the administrative person is shown good service and is saved time then they will want to continue working with PSE in the future.  All of these views can be included in the communication view.

                                                Team Managers

                                                Team players and parents

PSE Administrator

                                                Tournament Directors

Hotel staff & group sales representative

The relationship above, even though confusing helps to explain the relationships that PSE has to keep firmly in place.  These relationships also show everyone that they need to show excellent service skills to.  They need to keep strong relationships with team managers, tournament directors and hotel group sales representatives.  They do also need to provide customer service to team parents and players but they won’t have as close of a relationship as the team managers will with PSE.

Obstacles for PSE

Obstacles for PSE are other housing competitors, the economy, sports venues nearby and also hotels that are willing to form relationships with PSE.  Other competitors in the market may have better marketing or customer service and that is always a hard competition.  The economy can have an effect on children having the ability to be involved with travel sports because the cost can be high.  Available sports venues that are in the area for tournaments to be held at can always be an obstacle, also the availability of those venues.  Hotels are sometimes the hardest obstacle for PSE because they don’t want to give up too many rooms just in case they could sell them at a higher price to other customers.  Many hotels are also concerned with sports teams being rowdy and unprofessional, that is definitely the biggest obstacles with hotels.

Complexity of PSE Relationships

Most businesses today are very complex and are made up many different complex portions.  The more relationships you have, the more complex your business will have to be, you have to work all of the angles.  Premier Sports Events has 6 relationships so it is not really a very diversely complex system compared to other businesses.  As PSE grows, it will become more complex, and the technology of today will help to streamline that complexity into a much easier process!

I really enjoyed doing the project on Premier Sports Events.  Premier Sports Events is a company that is owned by a very close person in my life and I have been working for PSE for almost a year.  It is a fairly new business, operations started within the last three years.  During the systems project, we were able to look deeper into PSE and find out what its goals and objectives were for the company in the short and long-run.  I think it is also important that I really realized just how important the business relationships are that you build.

I know that I will be able to use this service in my future.  I know that when my children are involved in youth sports I am not going to want to have to worry about taking care of hotel reservations for the entire season.  I think that PSE began as a very innovative idea and has grown into a very smart company.  I am not sure that I would have much use for PSE as a system of my future profession seeing as how I am a finance major.

Again, I really enjoyed working through PSE and realizing all of the different aspects of the company!

I learned a lot doing the systems project, like how a business runs and sets its goals and objectives. Specifically I learned a lot about the business Premier Sports Events, a company that makes reservations for kid’s intramural sports teams while they go out on tournaments. We focused on the goals and objectives of the business and made models on the input-output processing.

In my future professional life I can use this information by setting goals and objectives for my business. Since I am a marketing major I will not be working in this type of company but learning how any company has aims and views will help me to establish them for myself. I have also learned that a company must focus not only on objectives but also obstacles that the company faces.

In my future personal life I can use the information gathered from Premier Sports Events when entering my children into sports teams and tournaments. I never knew that a business like this existed, but now that I do I will take full advantage of it.

Info Systems Project 3

The project on Premier Sports Events, also known as, PSE, is about a company that is built on relationships as well as services offered.  PSE is a growing company with a whole lot of potential.  Through this project as a whole I’ve realized how important that business relationship building can be.

I thought that there were some interesting things within this project.  The computer information system used in this business was very well put together.  It also works well for making and receiving business orders and transactions.  Furthermore it’s very well organized and prepared.

Even thought this is a great project and business, I don’t think that I will be using it in the future.  The reason for this is because it doesn’t truly apply to my major.  I am a Human Resource Management major so I don’t think that I will be using much of this system in the future.  However, the business itself is very intriguing and I’d be interested to learn more when I have kids.

Over all, I thought that this CIS was very user friendly.  It was an overall fantastic system of computer information and I didn’t have a problem using it at any point of the project.  I’m happy to have had experience with this project.  I will definitely keep this business in mind just in case my future does end up needing hotels for the location my children might be in with their intramural sports team.

Introduction

.  A system is a goal-driven set of elements and their purposely-oriented, structured relations that produce measurable results outside the system, despite obstacles. The company that we chose to represent an information system was Discland.com, which is an online store that sells CDs and DVDs. They make it possible through a complex business process to turn customer demand into payment for a product that is delivered. This computer information system not only keeps track of inventory but also mines information to see which customers are still buying from the company.

Executive Summary

For the Information Systems project we choose a company called Discland.com.  We made an Information Systems Model for this business which showed the input, the procedure, the storage, the output, and also the information attributes.  We also looked at different trends in this company and typical applications in business. Finally we each wrote a self evaluation of our project about what we learned and how we can apply it to out future business and personal lives. This project was very interesting and made us more aware of the business process used in a sales and distribution system.

Computer Information System

DiscLand.com is the newest online store where the hottest CDs and DVDs are sold. The company is one of the best on the market because of the extensive computer information system that it uses. With the computer information system, sales and distribution of products is made quick and easy.

The CIS system starts out with inquiries, which tell customers the price of specific products sold.  The customer then places the sales order and DiscLand.com sends them company billing information. After the customer is properly billed the company can then create a delivery for the sales order, which enables the company to pick up the product, pack it and finally ship the product directly to the customer. Once the customer has paid for their order, the company then posts goods sold to keep track of inventory.

The sales and distribution system manages the complex business processes that are involved with turning customer demand into payment for a product that is delivered. The information can then be mined to see if there are customers who have reduced or stopped buying the companies product. This is done through tracking the customer’s contacts by sales visits, phone call, letters and direct mailings. Other tools can also be used such as sales support to generate mail listings based on customer characteristics. These systems also keep inventory sourcing, which determines whether or not the customers order is in the warehouse or if it is committed to another customer. These tools also help to determine the delivery date depending on where the products are located and whether or not they need to be customized.

Info Systems Project 3

Our project was on the “faux” company called DiscLand.com.  DiscLand.com is the online store that sells CD’s and DVD’s.  The company uses a very wide-range computer information system.  Their computer information system provides quick results for sales and distribution of orders.  Since the company is a faux company I didn’t have any hands on experience with the system but since we got to make it up, we would definitely make it the most efficient.
We decided that the CIS system would start out with inquiries, which tell customers the price of specific products sold, then the customer would place an order and it then sends the company billing information for the client. The system then creates a delivery order, and then ships the order.

I think that DiscLand.com would be a very useful computer information system if I wanted to purchase a CD or DVD online.  The only reason I would use this in my future profession is if the company that I worked for wanted to purchase some sort of educational DVD from the company; but I would find much use for it in my personal life.  It has many of the same useful tools that the most successful computer information systems have today!

Info Systems Project 3

I learned a lot from the Information system project about how computer information systems support business activities and also the trends of today’s sales and distribution processes. The sales and distribution system not only keep track of the business inventory it also is used to keep track of the customers of that business through sales visits, phone calls, letters and direct mailings. All this keeps the business running smooth as too attract more business and keep current customers.

I can apply this projects knowledge in my future profession because I am going into marketing all these tools can be used as marketing techniques. Keeping track of customers makes them feel as though they are an asset to the company. Also this information gives me knowledge into how a business runs smoothly.

I can apply this knowledge in my future personal life by knowing the process by which something that I order or buy is being delivered and how a business keeps track of me as a customer. Also I can now avoid buying from business that I do not wish to keep in contact with me. Finally I am aware of how each customer order must be carefully handled in order to get it delivered in a timely manor.

I thought that this was a good project over all.  I appreciated the part where we were able to make up the business.  It was decent over all and had many differences in comparing our other projects.    I feel, this project had a lot to offer with understanding relationships between businesses and the customers.

Computer information systems have a lot to offer a business.  They support business activities very well.  The CIS used for DiscLand.com was very user-friendly, efficient and thorough.  It was easy to use, had good flow and was quite useful for receiving customer orders.    I also liked the broad range of methods able to be used to find a transaction of some sort.  It was an overall fantastic system of application and I didn’t have a problem using it at any point of the project.

Not only was it easy and convenient for the customer, it was also very user friendly for the customers.  That always makes customers happy and ready to come back.  Keeping their information for their safety and the companies also works both ways.  The company keeps it for records and so on while, the customer feels like they are a part of the organization.  In order to keep the customers happy at this point it’s just a matter of delivering everything well packaged and on time.

I’m happy to have experienced this project and all it had to offer.  I like that there are more than one system to choose from since not all companies are the same.  This was a good project.  I was able to learn much more about CIS and how it works with the business
