As
a teacher in a kindergarten and 1st grade classroom, I often
found myself wishing there were specific resources to reinforce and support
reading. I have created this page to
offer you these things! Listed below
are various articles, websites, and other resources to assist you in the
wonderful world of reading! Enjoy!
Websites
1. Reading as a Strategic
Activity.” Author:
Just Read Now, started by the Beacon Learning Center. http://www.justreadnow.com/strategies/index.htm
A wonderful website offering discussion strategies, active reading
strategies, vocabulary strategies, and organization strategies. They also
offer various tips for families to use at home.
Here is a great website compiled by a
teacher herself that lists various reading strategies to use in the
classroom such as Readers Theatre, Story Quilt, KWL, Cloze Procedure, and
many more.
The web site
presents and describes the four blocks literacy model as a means of developing reading. The four blocks include: Guided Reading, Self-
Selected Reading, Writing, and Working with Words. In depth description is provided for each
of the four blocks. A great website for learning how to incorporate this into your
classroom.
A unique
website that addresses reading strategies by covering what reading
strategies are, specific areas where a strategy might be used, how to choose appropriate
strategies, and much more. A very important resource of information for choosing your
reading strategies.
Articles

The article gives 7 steps including
things like: getting to know the child and their interests, and getting to
know the family and whether reading is a priority for them. The article also gives various links near
the end for more resources in aiding children with reading.
