OVERVIEW: This course examines the roles and their descendants in the social, economic, cultural and other institutional developments of the Americas, especially of North America from the siteenth century to the present century. Topics such as African ancient civilizations, relations between West African and European to 1518, the translantic slave trade and its causes and legacies, African American in British North America, their reactions to the American Revolutionary War and experiences in the new nation to 1865, and their new encounters and accomplishments from the end of the American Civil War to the present, will be examined.

COURSE REQUIREMENTS: Each student is required to write a four page - typed analytical and interpretive essay on any of the topics that will be covered during the semester. The purpose and dominant theme of the paper should be spelled out by the introductory paragraph. Further, the theme should be analytically and interpretively examined in the body of the paper. It should be backed by historical evidence and logical explanations. Every student is encouraged to make use of the basic text, suplemental readings, lecture notes, or relevant scholarly publications to substantiate his or her arguments. This essay counts for 30 percent of the grade. There will be two exams which accounts for 70 percent of the total. one will be given as midterm and other will be given as final.. There will be essay type and short one scentence type questions. There will be two surprise quizzes. Which accounts for 10 bonus points. One short term paper accounts for 30% marks and two exams accounts for 70% marks totalling to 100%. Attendance is compulsary. |
