Class Participation

Class participation is vital to this course as we will be learning from each other as well as from the professor. All students are expected to have carefully completed the reading and come to class ready with questions and ideas. This class offers many exciting opportunities for extended learning beyond required reading and projects -- participation in class includes involvement in extended learning activities.

Participation also includes involvment in the electronic discussion format that accompanies this class, CONFER, "African-lit." Be sure to stay involved throughout the semester, twenty minutes per week is a good amont of time to spend. 12,000 characters of meaningful and interactive comments by the end of the semester is a minimum for an "A" on the Confer assignment. (You can check your participation under "participant response statistics.)

The grade for class participation includes literature circles, small and large group discussions, grades on reading and map quizes, written assignments, and participation in the CONFER on-line discussion format.

As specified on the syllabus, missing class may influence your course grade.
