Take Home Final Essay
This final assignment provides an opportunity
to reflect back on and to demonstrate what you have learned in English 4800 by analyzing and comparing what we have learned in our class with descriptions of other cutting edge methods courses described in the new book Reclaiming English Language Arts Methods Courses: Critical Issues and Challenges for Teacher Education in Top-Down Times (2015). Read 4-5 chapters and extensively discuss 3 of them in relation to our course.
This book is available to you in full text online via the WMU library online course reserves. Here is the direct link: Reclaiming English. You will need your Bronco log in information (and, if you go via the online course reserve system rather than the direct link, the class password is ENGL 4800). There are three electronic copies available at any one time. So as soon as you are done reading chapters on line, log out, so others can get in. It is also possible to print/download up to 60 pages, once you do that you can log out. Then when you are ready, you can log in again and read more on line. Any questions contact: WMU Resource Sharing librarian Cherise Fox, 387-5882.
Of course, you can also buy the book!
Be careful to draw on and refer to the specific learning
that took place in our class as you write the final essay, including justice/inquiry/action, cultural studies, traditional
methods, reader response, readers workshop, new technologies, and, of course, the learning and experience of student-led instruction.
