What to Look Forward To:

  • You will be meeting a lot of new people. Which may seem scary, or it may not even bother you. Regardless the majority of people on campus are in the exact same boat as you. They all want to meet new people they can hang out with and maybe even become best friends with.
  • You will also be able to enjoy the wonderful food our cafeterias have to offer. We have a wide selection of different cafeterias, and each none offers something different. Valley 2, we have the stir fry, Valley 1 we have the subs; at the Burnhams we have tacos, and my personal favorite Bigelow we have the Grill. Each one is delicious, and is easily accessible through our busing system which is free for all Western Michigan students.
  • We also have a fabulous recreational center. This is open seven days a week, 6:00 am to 10:00 pm Monday through Friday, and 9:00 am to 9:00 pm Saturday and Sunday. This facility offers a wide variety of activates. They offer an amazing weight training facility, a racquetball and tennis court, an indoor pool and sauna, a rock climbing wall, plus they have intramural sports you can sign up for. This allows u to create your own team for almost any sport out there and compete against other kids throughout the University.

Tips on Staying Ahead:

  • Going to class, is one of the biggest steps to staying ahead. If you go to class, whether you are tired or don’t feel like going, can help you in the future. It allows you to get the assignment, the study guides, or even extra credit points.
  • When everyone else wants to go party and you have work to do, stay and finish your work. There will always be more parties; it is not the end of the world if you miss one. Plus if you finish your homework in time you might still be able to make it.
  • Lastly, no matter how bad you want to never cheat or plagiarize. There is no excuse for this, if you do it say goodbye to college. It is intolerable, and it’s just wrong. You don’t have the right to cheat off of someone who actually put time and effort into staying ahead. Do not do it, you will not like the consequences.

Time Management:

  • Before you do anything, make a schedule for yourself. Something that you can follow so that you can plan everything out. A schedule is a very useful thing to have. It keeps you and your classes, in a neat order. It keeps you on a good path and is easy to follow if you decide to stick with it.

Studying Tips:

    • Find somewhere, quiet and peaceful to study, not your dorm room.
    • Make sure you are not tired or sleepy before you begin studying.
    • Make sure your studying on a full stomach, no reason to leave and get food.
    • Make sure you have water or liquids with you to drink while studying, to keep you hydrated.
    • Lastly make sure you can sleep or even nap after studying, because doing so can help you organize the information in your head better, which allows u to remember it better.
