Welcome Parents! Thank you for taking the time to explore our classroom web site, and for showing such an interest in your child's education. I hope you think of us as partners, and as a collaborative team as well. I am very excited to be your child's teacher, and I want you to know that I take my job very seriously. I have a lot of fun and exciting things planned for this school year, and I cannot wait to get started. While you should feel free to explore this entire web site, this page is devoted entirely to you. On it you will find helpful links, a movie I made that tells more about me, links to our classroom newsletter, as well as some other helpful and informative things. I urge you to always feel open to contact me with any questions or concerns...my door is always open.

Teaching Experience
My foundation for educating children comes first and foremost through my experiences as a mother. I have two children of my own, Cierra and Wyatt. I was fortunate enough to have been able to stay home with them until Wyatt went to kindergarten in 2005. As a direct result of that, I learned many things about how children learn, and I wouldn't trade that experience for anything in the world. My kids have taught me so much about life, and I will always think of them as my first "students".
In addition to that, I have worked as a volunteer in my children's school on many occasions. I was the Business Partner in my son's kindergarten class, and several times throughout the year I came into his class and made presentations. I feel that that experience really opened my eyes to what being a teacher is all about. I also accompanied my children's classes on several field trips, ranging from trips to the zoo to the fair, to Sauder Village. All of these occasions were very important to my future teaching career, because I worked with so many different types of children. I also was a presenter for the St. Joseph County Artworks Day program for two years. I taught several groups of 5th graders how to make flower arrangements. That was quite a fun experience I won't soon forget!
Here are a few helpful links you might enjoy checking out...
This site is a great one for parents of all ages. It covers kids 0-18, and has numerous articles, craft ideas, fun travel plans and activities to try. Get updated on the latest toy recalls, and stay informed on all things pertinent to your child. In addition, it has a wonderful food section, with things like a recipe database and a yummy snack finder.
At this site, your child's health is top priority. Here you will find wonderful advice and information on things such as general health info, infections, emotions and behavior, growth and development, first aid and safety, pregnancy and newborns, and so much more. There is nothing more worrying to a parent than having an ill child, and this site can help answer some questions and ease some concerns. (Especially helpful in the middle of the night or on weekends when the doctor's office is closed!)
Parents of school-aged kids will love this site, which covers children from 3-18. There is a great section which breaks down each grade level in wonderful detail. Curious about what exactly your child is really learning in 2nd grade? What about how to get them more active? This site will answer those questions and many more. It also has some excellent articles about things ranging from toy recalls, to chickenpox, to how to find a great preschool. In addition, get info on healthy foods for your child, and see where the Presidential candidates stand on education issues. This site really does have it all.
