Teaching Philosophy

Teachers are to kids what sunshine are to flowers. Flowers need sunshine to grow...and children need good teachers to learn. Teachers are one of the most important people in a child's life, and therefore, I take my job as a teacher very seriously. In my classroom, children will find a safe, secure and happy atmosphere. I will show them respect, because I firmly believe that that is the best way to get respect. In addition, I recognize and understand how children learn best. By providing them with numerous educational experiences, giving them a supportive environment, and adapting my teaching style to the individual learning styles of my students, I will be doing all that I can to make sure they get the best education possible.

Career Goals

Let's face it...everyone remembers their favorite teacher. We remember specific things they did to make us smile, things they said, and ways that they made an impression on us. (For me that was Mrs. Hoffman -1st grade). There are not too many people in our lives growing up that have that kind of impact. That is one of the reasons that makes me want to be a teacher. Ideally, I would like to teach 1st, 2nd or 3rd grade in the same school district that my children belong to. I hope to accomplish this once I graduate from Western Michigan University. My family has been really patient with me while I finish my degree, and I cannot wait to get our new life started. One of my really long-term goals is that someday, some child will think back to their school days and say that Mrs. Haskins made a positive impact on their life. What more can a teacher ask for? :)
