Hello class,

 I must apologize, I have heard that class can be confusing and that people frustrated with understanding what’s going on and what I expect. I will certainly try to be clearer. I haven’t taught undergrads before and the amount of time is much shorter for each class period and frequency of meeting than I’m accustomed to. Excuses aside, I will try to incorporate the reading but not repeat the book. So, please ask questions when you don’t understand the readings.

I posted the group assignment on the website. Also, I will try to post homework papers from two students who did well on the assignment as an example.

Is everyone in a group for the homework assignment? Email me if you’re not or find a group to join.

For next class be sure to carefully read Chapter 5 and 7 but focus on Ch. 5 and understand the definitions of the various terms.

Oh, in reviewing the syllabus. I think the dates are correct for the assignments now. If you have any questions about the due dates, email me!

Remember, I said I’d give you 10 pts. extra credit for finding and bringing in an example of a survey. Be sure you’ve read it before you give it to me.

Additionally, for next class, please review some examples of how to conduct literature reviews and bring questions about the assignment to class. I’m most interested in having you learn to read research reports and critically examine the literature. Your group should read the articles and discuss the main points; then discuss how they can be combined and what can be concluded about the topic from reading these articles.
