DANC 3450 Twentieth Century American Dance

PAPER # ONE

Due November 10

DIRECTIONS: Select and sign up on my door for one of the dance artists listed below AND identify a cultural or historical phenomenon or event that had significant impact on the work of the artist. I must approve your topic. Seek out research material on the artist AND the cultural or historical phenomenon or event. Write a 5-7 page typed, double-spaced paper on your selected, combined subject. Prepare a brief, 5 minute maximum oral presentation highlighting your findings beyond what is discussed in the course text to present in class at the time the artist is covered. Paper is due by class time.

REQUIREMENTS: You must have a minimum of ten (5 for the person and 5 for the topic area) sources for your paper. Of these sources, at least one must be:
• From a journal or magazine
• From a book or chapter in a book
• From a website

All original source material must be cited when used in the body of the paper using MLA format. See MLA Handbook, 7th edition for citation formats and guidelines. A Works Cited page using MLA format must also be included. You may NOT use Wikipedia as a source for this paper.
