DANC 3450 Twentieth Century American Dance

PAPER # TWO

Due December 8

DIRECTIONS: View a dance video either from the music and dance library or from the collection in my office that we have not viewed and discussed in class. Other videos may be selected with my approval. Choose two dance artists that we have studied this semester. One artist must be a forerunner or from the “Heroic Age” (chapters 1 or 5) and one artist must be after the “Heroic Age” (chapters 9, 10, 11, 15, 16, or 17). Seek out research material on the artist and their artistic philosophies. Write an 8-10 page typed, double-spaced paper on your selected video:

• 1-2 page description of the video
• 1-3 page critique of the work from one artist’s perspective
• 1-3 page critique of the work from a second artist’s perspective
• 1-3 page critique of the work from your perspective

REQUIREMENTS: You must have a minimum of three sources, other than the course text, for each of the artists for your paper bibliography. Of those sources, at least one must be:
• From a book or chapter in a book
• From a website
All original source material must be cited when used in the body of the paper using MLA format. See MLA Handbook for citation formats and guidelines. A complete bibliography of all sources consulted in the preparation of this paper, as well as a full citation for the video viewed, must also be included even if the source is not cited within the body of the paper as an original source.
