DANC 3450 Twentieth Century American Dance

PAPER # TWO

DUE NO LATER THAN 5 P.M. ON MONDAY, DECEMBER 12

DIRECTIONS: View a dance video either from the music and dance library or from the collection in my office or from the internet that was choreographed by an artist we have studied this semester. The video segment must be one we have not viewed and discussed in class. Other videos may be selected with my approval. Choose two dance artists that we have studied this semester. One artist must be a forerunner or from the “Heroic Age” (chapters 1 or 5) and one artist must be after the “Heroic Age” (chapters 9, 10, 11, 15, 16, or 17). Seek out research material on the artist and their artistic philosophies. Samples of past "A" papers are in the blue file folder on the counter in the workroom under the mailboxes. Write an 8-10 page typed, double-spaced paper on your selected video:

• 2 to 3 page description of the video
• 2 to 3 page critique of the work from one artist’s perspective
• 2 to 3 page critique of the work from a second artist’s perspective
• 2 to 3 page critique of the work from your perspective

REQUIREMENTS:
The paper headings and paginations should be in MLA format. All original source material must be cited when used in the body of the paper using MLA parenthetical format. See MLA Handbook for citation formats and guidelines. A complete Works Cited page of all sources cited in the paper, including a full citation for the video viewed, must also be included.
