Multirate Signal Processing, 3 Credits

This advanced digital signal processing class will develop the theory, Matlab simulations and define various implementations of digital multirate signal processing. Topics covered will include digital filtering, filter-decimation, interpolation-filtering, rational rate changes, CIC filters, half-band filtering, polyphase filters, and filter bank analysis and synthesis.

Required Prerequisites:

ECE 4550/5550 [Advanced] Digital Signal Processing
Matlab programming ability

Desired Prerequisites or equivalents:

ECE 3800 Probabilistic Methods of Signal and System Analysis or
ECE 5820 Stochastic System Analysis
ECE 4600/ECE 5640 Communication Systems

Topics to be tentatively covered in this course include:

Sampling theorem including subsampling or bandpass sampling
Integer rate decimation
Integer rate interpolation
Rational rate changes
All digital signal analysis and synthesis
Polyphase Filters Implementation alternatives for the generalized discrete Fourier transform
Modern architecture for channelized receivers and transmitters
Quadraure mirror filter (QMF)
Comparative analysis of FIR filters for QMF analysis and synthesis
