RFID Demo

RFID 101 Demonstration: Distance, Material and Other Effects [pdf]
An RFID User Group Presentation
4 August 2004

Technical Abstract

This presentation and demonstration provides a brief overview of the new WMU RFID Laboratory, describes factors effecting RFID performance (particularly distance, materials, and interference), and provides a demonstration of an Alien RFID Development Kit.

RFID

RFID: Radio Frequency Identification [pdf]
An IEEE Student Branch Pizza and Pop Seminar
11 February 2004

Technical Abstract

RFID has emerged as a new technology with tremendous application potential. This seminar presents and overview of RFID with specific materials available on the Web (with specific elements from Intermec and ThinMagic). In addition, a discussion of the RFID work being performed as part of an ECE 481 & 482 capstone project will be discussed.

Lab Tour

RFID User's Group Laboratory Tour [pdf]
18 January 2005

Technical Abstract

Dr. Brad Bazuin from the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department at Western Michigan University will give a tour of their RFID lab, describe the equipment available, and answer questions about the hardware.

Tek RSA3308A

Tektronix RSA3308A RFID Signal Capture [pdf]
Dec. 2004 - Jan. 2005

Technical Abstract

A Tektronix RSA3308A Real Time Spectrum Analyzer was loaned for test, evaluation and demonstration purposes to the RFID Laboratory for portion of Dec. 2004 and Jan. 2005. This brief presentations shows the test configuration, the RSA3308A data set capture screen and captured IQ time sample data post processing using MATLAB. The RFID signal structure and modulation formats are shown.

Flexo Day 2005

An In-Depth Review of Radio Frequency Identification [pdf]
Flexo Day Presentation, 14 March 2005

Technical Abstract

The WMU Department of Paper Engineering, Chemical Engineering, and Imaging (PCI) hosts a yearly Flexo Day where the key topic for 2005 was RFID. Following an excellent presentaion by Mr. Jim Parker from Graphic Solutions, LLC, Dr. Bazuin presented the attached "in-depth review" of RFID that also includes information on RFID support and activities in southwestern Michigan.

Flexo Day is a student-organized event with the purpose of uniting both printing majors and the flexographic industry for learning and networking opportunities. Professionals within the flexographic and/or related indistries are invited to speak at this assembly, to address flexography's "state of the union," and to touch on a selected key topic. For mor information, contact the WMU PCI Department.

RFID Lab

RFID Technology Center: Laboratory Facilities at WMU
4 Auguset 2005 [pdf]
Brief Overview: 30 November 2006 [pdf]

Technical Abstract

This presentation will provide an overview of RFID.

The general concepts, potential applications, and range of devices and systems that perform wireless identification.

The predominant RFID system standard for global supply chain management, the EPCglobal Network™, will be described along with various technological factors that effect the systems ability to reliable detect and read passive tags.

An RFID developer’s kit will then be used to demonstrate basic system operation and a range of technical factors that should be considered when installing and using RFID.
