Western Michigan University started in 1903 as Western Michigan College, and in 1957, became Western Michigan University as Michigan's fourth public university and is considered to be a higher institute of education. The enrollment ranges around 25,000 and is a student centered research university. Undergraduate students can choose from 140 majors, while Graduate students can choose from 67 master's, one specialist and 29 doctoral programs. Western Michigan University has a beautiful main campus on the West side of Kalamazoo, and a few other sites for instruction and specified majors in nearby Kalamazoo, and Battle Creek. There are also many other branching campuses in Michigan offered. Although Western Michigan University is a fairly big university, it offers for a very community like feel. The student life is also very attainable and fun; with the NCAA division IA intercollegiate athletic teams and with some 275 registered student organizations-and you can even make your own if approved!
