Me, my family, and Andre's family went to this game park that's called Schotia. It was a safari. It was really fun! Our guide was named Robert. He was really nice. So we all got in a Land Rover with no top. We went through the big gate. Every animal we saw he would tell us about. We saw so many kinds of buck and they were really cool. Wart hogs can't see that good if you shine a light into its eyes. At night it won't reflect, but if you do it to a lion's eyes it will reflect. That's because they have good eyesight. Then we entered the double gate that led to the lions. I was on the side seat. He talked to us about all the rules and joked a little too much. It was night now. Pitch black! He had a light that he would shine. While we were driving he would shine it in the bush. Finally we saw the lions. It was a family. One walked really close to the car. Finally it was time for dinner. It was inside a big hut, called a Boma, and everything was cooked in the middle of the ring. It was the same shape of Bushmans (like a circle horseshoe). After dinner it was time to go to sleep. Our hut was in the lion part in the bush. Everyone else was in a fenced area where the buck were. See, one part is lions all fenced, and the other one is buck all fenced in. On the way to our hut we saw the lions. They were eating some kind of meat. the father was beautiful-he had a huge mane-and the mother had white on her neck. Our camp area was nice. It was a big bush of thorns that made kind of an igloo. We started a fire so the spiders and snakes would go away. The son of the person who owned Schotia is 20 years old and he stayed in a rooftop tent outside the camp with a gun just in case a lion tried to kill us. The camp had two little log cabins and a bathroom with a toilet, tub, and sink. There were also outdoor showers. They were nice and old. After we went to sleep-half shivering to death. When we woke up the game ranger's son said the lions were circling our bush camp all night. We packed up our things and hopped in the truck. We went on a morning drive and found the lions lounging really close to our camp. After awhile all the cubs got up and started walking to the car. They were about as big as Kara (who is 14). After awhile they stopped and we went to breakfast. After breakfast we went home. before we went and saw the lions we went to Addo again and saw the elephants really close when they were crossing the road. It was like a whole herd plus the new born babies! |
