As the Electronic Resources and Serials Librarian I manage one of three Units within the Technical Services Department. The unit acquires and manages several thousand print periodicals and serials, electronic journals, electronic books, and databases in order to support the collections of the University Libraries. The Unit also ensures access and troubleshoots problems.
Educational and Professional Background
Before becoming The Electronic Resources and Serials Librarian in 2006, I worked in the field of Library and Information science for twenty years, gaining valuable experience at various libraries in the community, including the Kalamazoo Public Library and Southwest Michigan Library Cooperative. Like several other faculty and staff I began working in the librarianship as a student employed here in the University Libraries and enjoyed the atmosphere and the challenges presented to me. I have a Master of Arts and a Master of Library Science from Western Michigan University and a B.S. in Political Science from Central Michigan University.
The new information technologies that appear almost on a daily basis present interesting challenges. How will they enhance customer service? How will they increase the interlinking and interoperability of resources? And how can they make finding information easy and intuitive? Answering these questions provide a wide field of research.
