    Dear Mr. Everts:

Pace the reader's expectations by placing the letter in its communication context.   Your letter refusing my application for credit came as a surprise. Over the past 15 years, my husband and I had four car loans, a home-improvement loan, and two small-business loans with your bank. The mortgage on the house I'm living in is also with your bank.

Lead and blend outcomes by calmly and logically demonstrating willingness and ability to repay.   We repaid each of these loans on time, and I suspect that you refused my application because I am now divorced. Even though my husband and I are divorced, my willingness and ability to repay loans have not changed. The income from my advertising agency is still more than $200,000 a year, and with the approval of my business loan, I'll be able to add the equipment and hire the help necessary to double my income.

The enclosed financial statements show you my current assets. I have no outstanding obligations other than the mortgage on my house. My company's potential for growth is stated clearly in the report by Lambert and Sculthorpe, the Management Consultants you recommended.

Motivate by asking for the action you expect. If appropriate, set and justify an end date.   Because state and federal law both give me the right to retain the credit standing my husband and I established over the years, I believe that you should reconsider my recent application for credit.

As my option on the equipment listed in the application expires on April 30, I would appreciate receiving your answer by the 15th.

    Sincerely,

    Lynn Corrie
