Konya to Pamukkale

We drove through the Lake Region of Turkey to Pamukkale. On the drive we visited the town of Beysehir to see the very well preserved Esrefoglu Mosque, built in the 13th century of wood. Stopped at a lovely restaurant on Lake Egirdir for lunch and continued on to Pamukkale. Our hotel in Pamukkale was Thermal Colossae, a very contemporary resort hotel used by many visitors to Turkey.

We said goodbye to the Balikcilar Hotel in Konya early in the morning and departed by bus for our next stop.

En route to Pamukkale we visited the Esrefoglu Camii (Mosque) in Beysehir. Built in the 12th century, the mosque's wooden interior is very well preserved.

We ate lunch at a restaurant on the banks of Lake Egirdir. This is Turkey's 4th largest lake. On a hillside by the road into town is a large Turkish army commando base. We drove by and were warned not to take photos.

Frank was popular with autograph hunters

During the drive we also had the opportunity to visit a local pottery artist. This gentleman uses local clay, prepares it himself, creates pots using the potter's wheel and then paints and fires them in his own kiln. Here he is demonstrating turning a pot.

The photos below show the Thermal Colossae Hotel where we stayed for two nights in Pamukkale. Although not typically Turkish, its amenities were appreciated by our group after so many days of intense exposure to a new environment.

Group dinner in outside restaurant at the hotel. Hotel photographer took this shot.

A small part of our group participated in the "belly dancing" entertainment after dinner.
