Northern Tanzania : DAILY LIFE
|
Daily
life was difficult to capture in northern Tanzania, because I was like
any tourist--with few connections to particular families that would
make photography permissable. People are generally wary of having their
pictures taken, and for good reason, as so many people have been made
the subjects of lucrative visual ventures (like postcards and coffee
table books) without pay. So this little sampling reflects the challenge
of taking pictures when one is not prepared to be unethical--I was not
sneaking photos from a distance with a long telephoto but rather taking
pictures in clear view in case anyone wanted to loudly object. I felt
pretty shy about the process in general, which would not be the case
if I were taking pictures among the Samburu families I know well.
