Iraqw" :
I was thinking of deleting this picture, but it is so typical a
pose, I decided to keep it. This was taken in the middle of our visit,
when we had been talking to our hosts for an hour or so. No one looks
particularly happy, yet they were eager for the photo, smiling up until
it was snapped. I've taken a lot of pictures in Kenya, and even with people
I know quite well who are begging me to photograph them, I often get similar
solemn faces once I aim the camera. Notice also the little girl--it was
her idea to hold my daughter's hand, yet she looks bored or annoyed, posing
with her Iraqw leather skirt. And my daughter--well, she is also typical--typically
silly even though I asked her to smile. |
