NORTHERN TANZANIA
| Northeastern Tanzania is geographically and culturally diverse. At one end of the spectrum, the war crimes tribunal hearings for the Rwandan genocide were held in the small city of Arusha. At the other end, there are vast open plains with wildlife loping or running across. This is not unlike the contrasts we have in the United States between crowded urban areas like New York City and Los Angeles, large tracts of rural farmland, and protected wildlife areas like YellowStone National Park. I have just a small sampling here, with a few views within the town of Arusha, of Mount Meru and the surrounding countryside, as well as of an Iraqw "cultural village" that I visited near Karatu on my way to Ngorongoro Crater. |
