STUDY ABROAD

The WMU Cultural Anthropology in East Africa Program offers a unique summer field school opportunity in the foothills of Kilimanjaro, the forests of northern Tanzania, and the beautifully rugged terrain of northern Kenya. Over the course of one month of field study led by two WMU cultural anthropologists, an intensive course in Kiswahili—the lingua franca of East Africa—is combined with field courses among Hadza hunter-gatherers in northern Tanzania and Samburu pastoralists (herders) in northern Kenya. The program exposes students to the rich and diverse cultural heritage of Tanzania and Kenya set in the context of the splendor of the East African savannah, world renowned for the richness of its wildlife and biodiversity. The program will be ideally suited for students in anthropology, history, Africana studies, global studies, political science, public health, ecology and other fields.

WMU Cultural Anthropology in East Africa Program will be offered for Summer 2006
