Eldis Poverty Resource Guide A politically neutral guide to many issues related to poverty, as well as links to articles, studies and data. There may be readings assigned from this site.
 
  FoodFirst Information Action Network FIAN and its sister organization, the FoodFirst Institute for Food and Development Policy in the U.S., consider food to be a basic human right. In addition to research and awareness-raising, FIAN embarks on campaigns to assist the landless and the hungry. You have one assigned reading from the FIAN website.
 
Institute for Development Studies Based in Britain, IDS conducts extensive field research on various aspects of poverty. Some assigned readings will come from this site.
 
  International Monetary Fund Poverty Reduction Strategy Papers In order to receive relief from debt, countries are required to develop Poverty Reduction Strategy Papers to demonstrate how the money that would otherwise be repaying debt will instead be devoted to poverty alleviation. A fairly new organization based in San Francisco, CorpWatch opposes globalization as it sees it in its current form, a system in which powerful corporation make the rules for their own benefit. It is in favor of a grassroots globlizationt to counter corporate power.
 
Global Policy is a decade-old NGO that monitors debates and decision-making at the UN. It is decidely critical of globlization in its current form and joins the list of organizations that seek to promote a global mass movement.
 
One World Network An international network of NGOs, One World is one of the more visible of the organizations that has adopted a digital approach to connecting communities, development specialists and resources. It prioritizes participatory and equitable development, human rights, and sustainability. Some assigned readings will come from this site.
 
open Democracy's web site examines specific issues that are part of the globalization debate, such as migration, the environment, GM foods, trade and more. Although critical of the current distribution of power, its critique is not knee-jerk. Some assigned readings come from this site. Social Justice Coalition The SJC was started in 1975 and is highly critical of both corporate power and the international financial insitutions that play a significant role in developing countries' economic decision-making.
 
The United Kingdom is on board as a strong supporter of globalization, and this report makes a case for how it can reduce poverty. Some assigned readings will come from this report.
 
UNCTAD/UNDP Globaliization Site UNCTAD is the UN Conference on Trade and Development. UNDP is the UN Development Program. Together they have organized a program for "Globalization, Liberalization and Human Development".
 
War on Want A five-decade old organization based in the UK, War on Want is a leftist organization that disputes mainstream development approaches. It often works directly with anti-poverty and anti-globalization movements in developing countries.
 
World Bank's Globalization Report: Globalization, Growth and Poverty: Building an Inclusive World Economy The World Bank's report on globalization and poverty argues both for the benefits of globalization and for needed changes to help the poor benefit. Some assigned readings will come from this report.
 
World Commission on the Social Dimension of Globalization The Commission was established by the International Labor Organization in early 2002 and is concerned with the social impact of globalization.
 
World Development Movement The WDMovement argues that current development policies keep people poor. Its two biggest targets are trade and debt.
 
World Social Forum Starting in 2001 in response to the annual World Economic Forums, a gathering of the wealthiest countries of the world to discuss the internaitonal economy, a group of Brazilians organized a counterpart gathering, the World Social Forum. Comprised of activists and intellectuals from the anti-globalization movement, it sets forth alternative agendas and goals to the dominant neo-liberal model of development.
