After discussing the budget expenditures with Angie Fitzpatrick (Technology Coordinator) I have found that the staff development budget for technology training is limited. Angie conducts most, if not all training, although some is provided by the Jackson County Intermediate School District. Springport offers in-service the first Wednesday of every month for research and development. Those days are short days for students ending at 11:30am. In service is also provided before the beginning of every school year at the end of August.

At the end of the 2007 / 08 school year a survey was taken from the middle school teachers. The survey was taken to determine the staff development needs for the 2008 / 09 school year. After meeting with Tanya Overweg, principal at Springport Middle School I was able to obtain the information gathered from the analysis taken at the end of the year. Mrs. Overweg has already started planning staff development for the up coming school year and has included most of the technology training. The training for Collins Writing Program and Criterion Writing Evaluation Service will be conducted by teachers who have already attended conferences paid for by grants written in previous years. The training for Moodle Course Management System will be conducted by a consultant hired through the Jackson County Intermediate School District.

Angie Fitzpatrick has set up monthly meetings after school to deliver staff development with computer programs such as Microsoft Word, ExamView Assessment Suite, Classroom Performance System, Internet Use, and Moodle Course Management. In my discussions with Angie we had talked about conducting a full day staff development for the programs that teachers felt they needed the most training with. May 15th has been set aside for training with Moodle Course Management System. So that further time does not need to be spent after school on Moodle, May 15th will be used as a full day of training. The training seminar will be conducted in the middle school computer lab by a technology instructor provided by the Jackson County Intermediate School District.

The day of training will start at 8:00 a.m. and run to 3:00 p.m. An hour for lunch will be provided by the district and will take place at the local Pizza Hut from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.  Anyone who attends lunch will be asked to carpool in order too save gas.
