My name is Craig VanderMuellen and I am a current graduate student at Western Michigan University. My program of study is housed in the College of Education in the department of Educational Leadership, Technology and Research. My concentration is in the Higher Education and Student Affairs program. I am looking to further my education in the hopes of becoming an academic advisor or career counselor upon graduation in spring of 2010. I may look to pursue my Doctorate someday down the road; however experience in my new profession is of most important to me as of right now. On May 5, 2008, I started my first graduate assistantship on campus working with Western Michigan Athletic Facilities. I am also currently working with the University Curriculum office on to fulfill my internship for my program. For the internship I have been working closely with faculty and staff to gain knowledge on all of the courses available to incoming freshman students. After going through a month long of orientation for myself, I then applied all that I learned to help advise incoming freshman students on what courses to take during their orientation to help them further their young career paths.

In my current position working with Western Michigan Universities Athletic Facilities as a Graduate Assistant, I have had the pleasure of overseeing multi-million dollar facilities as well as direct supervision of student staff. Thanks to this opportunity I am able to build upon my love for sports and build new relationships every day. I am looking forward to an exciting season of Bronco sports that will give me the opportunity to build relationships with all the head coaches, facility staff members, student athletes, and athletic director(s). With my growing knowledge within my program of study and working with Bronco athletics, I hope I can take these experiences and use them to my advantage to one day work for an institution that will allow me to have direct contact working with students within an athletic setting.
