In this course we will examine how Western Civilization and Culture came to think in the way it does. We will examine visual art, literature, philosophy, religion, and other cultural expressions from prehistory through the Middle Ages and observe how Western thought evolved.
My goals for students in this class are twofold: First, to master the course content and gain a working knowledge of how the different strains and influences within these early civilizations continue to affect us; and second, to gain practical skills in critical thinking, research, and writing.
