Tentative Schedule

Here is the run-down of the course. Although I have included the word "tentative," we will make every effort to stick to this schedule. As a student myself, I know that you want to know the "5 W's" when it comes to reading and assignments. Do, however, understand that there may have to be alterations due to this and that.

WEEK ONE: ‘ Setting the Stage'.

Tuesday, 1/8 (Whole Class)

  • ‘A desk' activity/critical discussion.
  • Discussion of syllabus, expectations, assignments, syllabus, etc.
  • Break class up into cohorts and presentation groups.
  • Assigning groups for ‘Group Teach' project
  • Don't forget to get signed up for “NICENET.”
  • There is a question on NICENET this week!
  • NICENET questions are posted MONDAY'S.
  • You have until SUNDAY 11:59 pm to answer or it is LATE/ZERO!
  • Start setting up the Teacher Inquiry Project.

Assigned reading: Introduction of Oakes/Lipton text; copy off and read John Gatto's ‘Against School'.



WEEK TWO: ‘The Purpose of School'.

Tuesday, 1/15 (Whole Class)

  • Quick Write: 'What is the Purpose of Schools? Of Teachers?'
  • 'Only a Teacher' video/discussion.
  • 'What IS a teacher?'/Different Views activity.
  • Review/discuss Gatto article.
  • Make sure to check NICENET!
