Course Description

This course is designed to be an introductory survey of American national government.  It introduces the basic principles and theories of American government, explores the political process, describes the formal structure, and illustrates its functions.  Throughout the semester, attention will be focused on some of the problems and challenges facing the American system of government and by extension, its citizens.  Students should expect to complete this course with a broad understanding of the concepts laid out above, with the hope that they will be more informed, participatory actors in the political system
