Fresh Water Sport Fish

Largemouth Bass - The largemouth bass is the most popular sport fish. Reasons for this include they put up a respectable fight for their size, they are found almost anywhere, they respond well to catch and release and they eat a wide variety of food. Largemouth bass are marked by a series of dark blotches running along each side. They average largemouth weighs 1 to 3 pounds and are between 8 and 10 inches long. Their diet consists of worms, frogs, snakes, insects, crawfish and baitfish. They tend to be found around vegatated areas that provide cover. Logs, lilly pads, weed beds, rock beds, docks and drop offs are where bass can be found.

Bluegill - Bluegill are another popular sport fish. They are a member of the sunfish family and are native to North America. Bluegills most noticable feature is the blue spot on the side of the head. The bluegill grows to a maximum length of 40 cm. They can be caught of live bait, small lures or flies and they tend to feed at dusk and dawn. They travel is schools usually consisting of 20 to 30 fish. Bluegills are a great beginner fish to start learning on. They are easy to catch and there are plenty of them in every lake and pond.

Pike - Pike range across North America and Western Europe. Pike can grow to a maximum of 6 feet, and weigh up to 70 pounds. They have a torpedo like body shape that helps them slice through the water at great speeds. This is useful when they hunt down their pray. Pike are an extremly aggresive fish with very sharp teeth. Their coloration is a grey-green with spots or stips down the sides. The pikes primary diet inclueds small fish, minnows, eels, frogs, mice, and other small animals in the water. They are becoming a prize trophy fish.
