SOME RESEARCH

“Most Americans want Adolescents to succeed in school and learn what they need to prepare themselves for work (or at least for further education), but most Americans also want Adolescence to be a time when young people are free to enjoy life to the fullest before the responsibilities of adulthood arrive” (Arnett, 2007, 315).

“Experts also believe that students who are forced to wear uniforms will only find other, less appropriate ways to express themselves, possibly through inappropriate use of makeup and jewelry” (PSPN, 2001).

Preventing gang colors
Decreasing violence and theft due to clothes and shoes
Instilling discipline
Reduce need for administrators to be the “clothes police”
Reducing distractions
Instilling a sense of community
Helping schools recognize those who do not belong on campus grounds
