American Medical Technologies

Description

American Medical Technologies (AMT) makes dentistry high-tech. Its Hydro Jet system removes tooth decay with a stream of tiny particles and water propelled by compressed air. Other products include curing lights that quickly bond composite fillings and a line of tooth-whitening products sold through a distribution agreement with Spectrum Dental. The firm also makes precision air abrasive jet machining systems for industrial uses, such as cutting fiber optics and beveling silicon wafers. AMT sells to dentists in the US and around the globe through a combination of independent sales representatives and distributors; its industrial products are primarily sold through distributors.

Allied Healthcare International (formerly Transworld HealthCare) offers temporary staffing services to the UK health care industry. The company operates through a network of about 100 branches across the UK. Allied Healthcare also provided medical-grade oxygen for respiratory therapy to pharmacies and patients at home in northern Ireland. However, in October 2007 the company divested these operations (primarily its Allied Respiratory Ltd. and Medigas subsidiaries) to industrial gas supplier Air Liquide Group for about $75 million.
