Some Notes on David A. Richter

Ages 0-20. Born at Fitzsimmons Army Hospital in Colorado shortly before 1970. Lived briefly in Colorado and Delaware. At age 1, moved to St. Cloud, Minnesota. Attended elementary, junior-high, and high schools in St. Cloud. Spent some summers in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, near the Houghton-Hancock area. Attended St. Cloud State University. During college years, lived briefly in Madison, Wisconsin.

Post-Secondary Education. Received Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics from St. Cloud State University in 1992. Moved to Minneapolis for graduate school in 1992. Received Doctorate of Philosophy in Mathematics from the University of Minnesota in 1998. The title of the doctoral dissertation was "Semisimple Lie Algebras of Differential Operators".

Professional Life to 2004. From 1992 until 1998, worked as a teaching assistant to pay for graduate school at the University of Minnesota. From 1998 until 2000, worked as a post-doctoral fellow at McGill University in Montreal. From 2000 until 2002, worked as an assistant professor of mathematics at Southeast Missouri State University in Cape Girardeau. From 2002 until 2004, worked as an assistant professor of mathematics at William Paterson University, in Wayne, New Jersey.

Pastimes. Maintains a growing collection of mathematical models, mostly hand-made from readily available materials. Most of the several hundred models represent ideas in low-dimensional geometry, topology, and/or group theory. Likes to study mathematics, take stereo photographs, watch movies, listen to music, browse the www, read, make paper and Zome models, study coins and stamps, juggle, and use software for geometrical visualization.

Travel. Has visited the cities of Albany (New York), Ann Arbor, Athens (Greece), Austin, Baltimore (Maryland), Banff (Alberta), Bemidji, Boston, Boulder (Colorado), Brainerd, Brownsville, Burlington (Vermont), Cairo (Illinois), Cambridge (England), Cambridge (Massachusetts), Carbondale (Illinois), Chicago, Cleveland, Columbus (Ohio), Corning (New York), Dallas, Danbury (Wisconsin), Delphi (Greece), Denver, Detroit, Duluth, Elgin, Eau Claire, Estes Park (Colorado), Fargo, Fennville (Michigan), Grand Rapids (Michigan), Great Bend (Kansas), Halifax (Nova Scotia), Indianapolis, Ithaca (New York), Jackson (Michigan), Jackson (Missouri), Kansas (Missouri), Konstanz (Germany), Lincoln (Nebraska), London (England), Lonsdale (Minnesota), Los Angeles, Mackinaw (Michigan), Memphis (Tennessee), Mexico, Montgomery (Minnesota), Milwaukee, Nashville, Newark (New Jersey), New Madrid, New Orleans, New York, Niagara Falls (Ontario), Niagara Falls (New York), Northfield (Minnesota), Orem (Utah), Ottawa, Paducah (Kentucky), Park (Utah), Paterson (New Jersey), Paw Paw (Michigan), Philadelphia, Phoenix, Pittsburgh, Pontiac, Princeton (New Jersey), Quebec, Rochester (Michigan), Rochester (Minnesota), Rolla (Missouri), Utica (New York), Saratoga Springs (New York), Saskatoon, Salt Lake, Saugatuck (Michigan), Seattle, Sikeston (Missouri), South Bend (Indiana), South Haven (Michigan), South Haven (Minnesota), South Padre Island, Springfield (Illinois), Ste. More Personal Details. Married, with three children. Devout Pastafarian.

Now. Working as a professor of mathematics at Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo. Attempting to divide worktime equitably between teaching and research. Research covers topics in discrete geometry and mathematical physics. Recently I have been focusing my efforts on ghost symmetry.
