COURSE PREREQUISITE: A passing grade (C or better) in Math 1110 or a satisfactory score on an appropriate placement exam (ACT, SAT, WMU math placement exam or, equivalent transfer credit). If you are in a business college curriculum, consult your advisor to see if Math 1160 is a more appropriate course for your program.

TEXT: PRECALCULUS, by Dwyer and Gruewald. Helpful tip: You will understand the material better if you have read the appropriate sections of the book before each class.
SYLLABUS: You will study Chapters 1-8, covering various types of functions (linear, quadratic, polynomial, rational, exponential, logarithmic, and trigonometric). You will also study briefly, conic sections.
CALCULATOR: You are required to have a graphing
calculator for this course.
The classroom overhead will feature the TI83 or the TI89.
ASSESSMENT: Homework-Quiz-Attendance, Boardwork :

in-term exams (3): 45%
Final Exam: 35%

Please try to
be punctual, particularly for exams.
GROUP WORK: You should form groups, for the
purpose of preparing homework.
Each group should meet outside of class to prepare the assigned problems for
the next class, when I may randomly choose individuals to present problems.
TUTOR LAB: (Course Fee Provides this opportunity.) Check for hours.
ACADEMIC INTEGRITY: You are responsible for making yourself aware of and understanding the policies and procedures in the Undergraduate Catalog (pp. 274-276) that pertain to Academic Integrity. These policies include cheating, fabrication, falsification and forgery, multiple submission, plagiarism, complicity and computer misuse. If there is reason to believe you have been involved in academic dishonesty, you will be referred to the Office of Student Judicial Affairs. You will be given the opportunity to review the charge(s). If you believe you are not responsible, you will have the opportunity for a hearing. You should consult with me if you are uncertain about an issue of academic honesty prior to the submission of an assignment or test. In particular, use of a cellphone or other electronics during any testing will be considered an attempt to cheat. Only an approved calculator is permitted.
June 2nd: This is the last date a student can process an official withdrawal from the course, to avoid a possible E grade. Incompletes are rarely given, and they are never given as a substitute for a failing grade.
