Burton Snowboards operates a handful of factory outlet stores located in Massachusetts, Illinois, New York, Vermont (at the company's headquarters), and in Austria. The company is owned by its chairman, Jake Burton, a snowboarding enthusiast who founded the company in 1977.

ESB sells its products through retailers ranging from Wal-Mart to local sports shops and has licensing agreements for brands like Fisher-Price and Mongoose for its accessories. The company was created through a merger between Riddell Bell and Easton Sports in 2006.
