Group Project Description
PRESENTATION
Develop a set of musical tasks to assess an assigned population's
responsiveness to music within three specific domains. Refer to Hanser pg.
50 and 51 to choose the domains you determine are most appropriate for your
given population. I have only provided age ranges - your group can decide
on the specific diagnostic population within the provided age range. Generate
three (3) activities, songs, etc. that your assessment tool will be comprised
of. Presentations should be no less than 15 minutes and no more than
25 minutes in length. Be sure to rehearse your presentation, in part,
so you can get an accurate sense of the amount of time you will need to present.
Choose one of the following options for your format:
- Role-play the situation. You decide the responsibilities of each person
in your group; e.g. one therapist four clients; one therapist one client and
the other three group members provide narration; etc.
- Provide a lecture or didactic description of your assessment tool. Be sure
to provide visual aids of some sort; overhead slides, powerpoint presentation,
etc.
- Other effective ideas - be creative!
- ALL MEMBERS MUST BE AN ACTIVE CONTRIBUTOR TO THE PRESENTATION TO
RECEIVE FULL CREDIT
Be sure to bring all materials you require to class; instruments, boombox,
CD's, MIDI equipment, etc. If you are using electronic equipment and media,
make sure it works and is ready to go prior to class. You can sign instruments
out of the resource room. Do not wait until the "morning of" to do
this as instruments and other equipment you may need may be already checked
out by practicum students.
PAPER
Write a paper (one paper for the whole group - put all names on a cover page)
including the following information (be sure to include these exact headings
for my review):
- PATIENTS
- For whom is the assessment designed?
- Should it be done in a one to one setting or a group setting?
- Should it be done at bedside?
- Should it be done in the community area of a facility?
- Other?
- MATERIALS
- What are the musical materials you will require including exact song
names, instruments, boomboxes, etc.
- Why did you choose the tasks/interventions you decided upon?
- Was there a group consensus?
- OBJECTIVES
- What do you hope to learn about your client(s)?
- What domains did you address and how did you decide upon these areas?
- PROCEDURES
- Provided a step-by-step description (task-analysis) of how to administer
the assessment.
- Identify various adaptations in order to apply this assessment tool
with other populations or varying degrees of pathology with your chosen
population.
- REFERENCES
- What reference materials did you use?
- Provide a reference page (APA style).
- Attaach any appendices such as lead sheets, song forms, etc.
To include all content listed above, your paper should be approximately 2 to
3 pages typed, double spaced, one-inch margins, with 12-pt. font. Reference
and appendices are considered additional pagesI.
