This seminar introduces students to the discipline of art history and to the fundamentals of “reading” medieval images in a variety of media. Emphasis is placed on avoiding the common pitfalls in analyzing and writing about works of art and on the recent re-integration of the art object into the discourse of art history.

Prerequisites: none, but an elementary knowledge of Latin is assumed
